Homework Assignment 1/27/2011

In the movie "Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back," the Death star is a nickname for a powerful weapon made by the Empire. In the beginning of the movie, the Death star was actually destroyed because of the victory of the Galactic Empire. Everyone went into hiding and it leads to the rebels making a base on the ice planet Hoth.

Darth Vador was chasing Princess Leia around the galaxy because Princess Leia had imperial plans that made up the readouts of the Death Star and how it works. The Death Star was known as a terror weapon because it could destroy anything. Darth Vador and his stormtroopers chased her all around to try to get the readouts and plans for it, so they would be able to figure out how it works and use it.

Luke Skywalker was a jedi and a war hero who participated in defeating the Galactic Empire in the Galactic War. He started to train with jedi master Obi Wan Kanobi and met Han Solo with Princess Leia. Princess Leia is actually Luke Skywalker's twin sister, but he didn't know that until later. Luke also destroyed the Death Star and joined the rebel alliance.

Book Selection Homework

Today in Media Arts, we went to the library to choose a book about George Lucas. Ms.Hart also showed us a video of George Lucas explaining how he got so far into the movie business before. The book that I chose was "Star Wars Clone Wars Adventures." I chose this book because I thought it looked really interesting because of it's cover picture which showed a guy holding like a lightsaber while blowing it and it turned out to be a colorful comic book with a cartoon style Star Wars.

Star Wars V: Plot Summary

Star Wars V "The Empire Strikes Back," starts out in a frozen planet called Hoth. Luke Skywalker has finished his circles and when he finished contacting the base saying there's a meteror in the ground, he gets kidnapped by the Wampa (snow monster) and brought back to his cave hanging from the icy ceiling. All of the people, CP30, and R2-D2 are at the base looking and wondering where Luke is because he was supposed to return back there after finishing his circles. When Luke awakens from sleeping while hanging from the icy ceiling, and he uses his force to get his lightsabor, while he does that, the Wampa comes back in and Luke attacks him with his lightsabor escaping, trying to get back to the base. The dark force is part of Darth Vador's army and the rebellion includes Princess Leia and Han Solo. The Rebellion joins the group with Luke Skywalker.

The characters of Star Wars V "The Empire Strikes Back," are C-3PO played by Anthony Daniels, R2-D2 played by Ben Burtt, Luke Skywalker played by Mark Hamill, Han Solo played by Harrison Ford, Princess Leia played by Carrie Fisher, Darth Vador played by David Prowse, and Chewbacca played by Peter Mayhew. R2-D2 and C-3PO are major character in all of the six movies. They go all around places because they supported Darth Vador, Obi-Wan Kanobi, and Luke Skywalker. Luke Skywalker was told by Obi-Wan Kanobi to travel to the planet Dagobah and complete his training under Jedi Master Yoda. Darth Vador also known as Anakin Skywalker leads the dark force and also known as the father of Luke Skywalker. Han Solo was a smuggler and a mercenary. He and his mate, Chewbacca, became involved in the Rebel Alliance against the Galactic Empire. Princess Leia is the twin sister of Luke Skywalker and the daughter of Darth Vador. Before Leia knew that she was Luke's twin sister, she was madly in love with him, but then she found out and liked Han Solo.

I thought that Star Wars was a somewhat interesting movie, because I didn't understand much of it, for not watching the first movie, so I don't really know what happened before. The music in the beginning sounded very dramatic and I loved how it started with a introduction explaining what happened in the previous movie that rolled up like credits. Overall, I still liked the movie, it actually showed the goofs, and the graphics weren't that bad. I can't wait to go to the Field trip to the Kabuki Theater.

George Lucas Bio: Homework

George Walton Jr. Lucas was born on May 14, 1944 in Modesto, California. Lucas attended University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. While he was there, he learned many things about Cinematic Arts and that is probably what brought his success now. He was worth $3 billion in the year 2010. He is an film director, producer, and film writer. He is well known for creating the movie Star Wars and the character Indiana Jones. Now, he is one of the most popular and one of the most successful directors and producer in cinema history.

George Lucas's first Star Wars came out on May 25, 1977. He started out by taking small notes and ended up putting it all together into a script, forming a movie. When it first came out, everyone rushed out to movie theaters to see it on opening night. People would line up and wait a week for opening night because back in those days, the graphics of it were just so clear and amazing to people. If you play close attention to the movie, you might see some goofs. This film earned $460 million in the United States and $337 million overseas, beating the movie "Jaws" gross revenue. It got ten nominations, but still got 6/10 awards!

After making the first Star Wars movie, it was a huge hit! He continued to make 5 more to continue the fantastic series. The 6 movies are "The Phantom Menace" (May 19, 1999), "Attack of the Clones" (May 16, 2002), "Revenge of the Sith" (May 15, 2005), "A New Hope" (May 25, 1977), "The Empire Strikes Back" (May 21, 1980), and "Return of the Jedi" (May 25, 1983). He is extremely rich after making all of these movies and they are still popular, watched today.

Do Now: Stars Wars

Today, in Media Arts we watched Star Wars: Episode V- The Empire Strikes Back. This movie was made 30 years ago. The graphics don't look that good now, but back then, those graphics were the best graphics. The movie starts out with Luke Skywalker in a snowy climate, but then he gets punched in the face by a snow monster. He is brought back into his cave hanging from the icy ceiling, then awakens and tries to get back down, when he uses his force to grab his light saber, the snow monster comes back in, and Luke hits him with his light saber.  The orange suits start with their jets start to attack the monsters.
